Los Premios Annie, presentados por la organización ASIFA-Hollywood, hacen honor a los logros de animación, dándole a las series y películas animadas la atención que merecen. Aun hoy en día, por alguna razón, se mira a la películas animadas como inferiores a pesar del enorme esfuerzo, trabajo y creatividad que se aplica en ellas. Por supuesto, entre los nominados también tenemos películas que no son, exactamente, animadas. Avengers: Age of Ultron, por ejemplo, esta en algunas categorías, debido a los efectos especiales en algunas escenas que, ciertamente, cuentan como animación.
Definitivamente la película que se llevo más premios este año fue Inside Out, ganando 10 de 14 nominaciones, por lo que fue un buen año para Pixar a pesar de que The Good Dinosaur no fue un exitazo como sus películas lo suelen ser. Y no obstante, la historia de Arlo y Spot también se llevo un premio.
Este año también se conto con la inauguración de una nueva categoria: «Mejor película animada independiente», que fue ganada por la película brasileña Boy and the World (El Niño y el Mundo).
